Relaxing, fulfilling, an outlet for ideas, stress reliever, fun social event-  crafting is all of these things!   I never would have considered it dangerous- until Wednesday.  Wednesday was the first day I ever sustained an injury while crafting that sent me to the urgent care clinic.    Having gone to Stampin’ Up!’s regional event in Columbus this past Saturday, I was inspired to create some items using my sewing machine!  My sister, who is a Thirty-One Gifts consultant, had sent me the swatches of the retired Thirty-One fabrics.  She thought I might be able to do something with them!  I was itching to put this  material to use in a quick project- a cute drink cozie.  I had 30 minutes between the time my youngest son got on the bus and the time I had to leave for Bible study.  I truly thought I could whip out a cozie or two before I had to go.  Well, I didn’t make it to Bible study – I spent an hour and a half in the ER.  I managed to “sew” my left index finger with the sewing machine.  The needle broke off in my finger.  I felt ridiculous when the nurse said she didn’t think it would need stitches.  Had I over-reacted?  My frenzied running around the house trying to figure out what to wrap around my finger seemed over the tip now.  They x-rayed my finger to make sure the needle hadn’t hit the bone- it didn’t!,  and that there were no pieces of needle left in it-  unfortunately there was a little sliver of needle left behind !  The kind and thorough doctor was able to numb my finger and remove the sliver without too much digging around!  Of all the hobbies one can participate in, crafting is certainly not on the top ten list of dangerous activities- not even in the top 100! My tips for you:
1) use care with heat tools
2) scissors and other sharp items

3) always stick to fabric when sewing- using your finger is just too painful

Well, I got back on the horse and finished the project later in the day. Here are the results:
